DWR water pitcher with Iouseki stones and Binchotan charcoal

Good tasting water. Good looking pitcher.

Let’s face it, the Brita (and others of it’s ilk) are ugly. And plastic. But we still want good water and bottled water is so 1990′s.

Enter the Hario Glass Iousen Pot. It contains Binchotan, or white, charcoal which (like activated charcoal) adsorbs ions and other impurities (ideally chlorine and lead) in water. It should render the water odorless. Then, the Iouseki stones, which should add minerals back into the water. Filtered water generally moves towards acidic because many of the minerals are removed. Some believe that this causes our body to neutralize them, thus leaching precious calcium that would have made our bones stronger. Or something. We’re not so sure about that.

But we have heard good things about the taste of the water from these Japanese pots. And they look pretty cool.

Worth a try for $75 (on sale now)?

That, of course, is up to you.
