Get sprouted: heirloom vegetable seeds

Seeds from when veggies were grown for FLAVOR

It’s getting to be spring. I know it doesn’t feel like it, given that 70% of the country is covered with snow. But here in Southern California it definitely does….and it will soon for the rest of y’all too.

That said, it’s time to get some seeds started (or at least time to plan for it). This great little kit from Terrain includes a hoarde of seeds for heirloom vegetables. If you’re not familiar with heirloom vegetables, check them out (heirloom plants @ wikipedia). These are seeds from plants that were produced prior to commercial agriculture. Which means these are plants that were selected for the good stuff: taste, color, nuance, uniqueness – not bad stuff: shipping, resistance to pests (and pesticides), larger harvests, etc.

The result will be varieties that are delicious and likely taste the way they’re supposed to taste.

This kit comes in a burlap bag (so it’s a nice gift) and includes 12 packets, including:

  • Cherokee Purple Tomato
  • Mervielle Des Quatre Saisons Lettuce
  • Rouge Vif d’Etampes Pumpkin
  • Lemon Cucumber
  • Broccoli Calabrese
  • Christmas Pole Lima Beans
  • Tonda Di Parigi Carrot
  • Louisiana Long Green Eggplant
  • Ananas D’Amerique A Chair Verte Melon
  • Chervena Chujski Peppers
  • Viroflay Spinach
  • Cocozella Di Napoli Squash

mmm. And it’s always fun to watch these things grow.
