On the steampunk-y, whoa-o, radio…

Radio is still worth a listen

Radio is still worth a listen

We love this whole movement towards the analog aesthetic. Sometimes it’s steampunk, sometimes just classic, sometimes it’s hard to really make a distinction between the two. They call it “new-stalgic”, but we’re not on board with that term…

That is certainly the case with the Crosley Solo radio. It definitely has that old tube radio look, but it has digital sound fit for audiophiles. Very similar to the Tivoli Model One (which is more along the lines of classic than steampunk, but also a great sounding radio), it features high end tuning and a bigger sound that one would think. Crosley also boasts what they call “ArroundSound” which is supposed to eliminate audio hot spots in a room…many say it fills the room, though we are guessing this depends a lot on the room.

Thank God for KCRW because otherwise there wouldn’t be much point in listening to the radio at all. But we find it makes a nice complement to our digital life. Sometimes it’s great to just turn on the radio, pick up the paper (or a good book) and chill out.
